"I can feel I am making a big difference in people’s lives which makes caring a very rewarding job." Kelsee Hassen Personal Carer, Charles Young Residential Care Centre
When she was younger, Kelsee Hassen helped to look after her very ill grandfather. It was this experience that motivated her to pursue a career in aged care.
Now at age 20, Kelsee works as a personal carer at ECH’s Charles Young Residential Care Centre and has done so since 2009. Being a carer involves ensuring that all the needs of residents are met through working in a team environment with a focus on constant communication.
Kelsee believes there is a lot to learn from older people and the advantage of being a young carer is that residents look to you as being like a granddaughter or grandson which helps them to open up with stories from their past. “We all benefit from their stories and life experiences,” Kelsee says.
