Volunteering with ECH

Why volunteer with ECH?
ECH is able to offer residents many 'extra' activities and opportunities because of the commitment of our volunteers. Volunteers and staff work together to encourage and support residents to participate in a variety of social activities.

Whatever your interest, talents or skills may be, ECH can assist you with a rewarding volunteer experience.

ECH has many opportunities for volunteers to become involved with the residents and staff. Volunteer opportunities are available with both active retirees living independently and the less active residents in the residential care centre.

Volunteer opportunities within ECH are as varied as your imagination. If you have particular skills and talents that you would like to share, ECH can create an opportunity for you within our volunteer programs.

  • Do you enjoy talking to people?
  • Do you have a good driving record and enjoy getting out and about?
  • Do you embrace a fundraising challenge?
  • Do you have skills working with computers?
  • Do you enjoy music or play a musical instrument?
  • Do you garden, sew, knit, or make crafts?
  • Do you have any particular skills that you would like to practice more often?

If you can answer yes to any of the questions above, ECH can provide a volunteer opportunity for you.

Opportunities to volunteer are available in the following areas of ECH:

  • Residential Care Centres
  • Therapy Centres
  • Auxiliaries
  • Fundraising Projects & Events
  • Administration
  • Transport & Outings

What can you expect when you volunteer with ECH?

Orientation
All volunteers undertake an orientation by working through a checklist with a supervisor to ensure you fully understand your role, how it fits into the wider organisation and to answer any questions you may have.

Training & Skill Development
ECH is committed to ensuring that all volunteers enjoy their voluntary contribution and works in partnership with its volunteers to provide on-going opportunities to develop their skills.

Regular training and skill development opportunities are offered to volunteers who are interested in furthering their knowledge and learning new skills. A variety of topics are covered including basic first aid and communicating with the frail aged. Specific training to assist volunteers in their role is also available, including bus operation for drivers.

Reimbursements
Reimbursements are provided for out of pocket expenses where applicable.

Volunteer Recognition
Most people volunteer to make a difference to someone’s life, not for the recognition. However, ECH volunteers are highly valued by residents and staff and we like to show our appreciation through a variety of recognition and social events, such as movie days and lunches.
