A high school teacher for almost 40 years, Willemien’s interest in the profession began early.
“I was an only child, and I remember teaching my dolls in my room as a little girl,” Willemien recalls. Emigrating from South Africa, she originally came to Adelaide to be closer to her daughter and her family. When they moved interstate, Willemien wondered what she should do.
Since moving to an ECH unit and being introduced to the Living Well Program, Willemien is now enjoying a busy life. More importantly, she has even been able to put her professional skills to good use as a volunteer tutor at Sunrise Christian School. “Fiona from the Living Well Program never gave up on me, she opened the way for me to volunteer.”
