ECH is a 'not-for-profit' charitable Association with the following aims:
to promote the interests of the ageing in general
to encourage and initiate the development of health care and welfare services for their benefit
ECH was formed specifically to provide suitable purpose built accommodation and appropriate care services for a succession of ageing persons using capital grants under the Aged or Disabled Persons Homes Act 1954-1974 and the Aged Persons Hostels Act 1972-1976.
The benefits of our facilities and services are available:
without discrimination to every ageing person, for it is accepted that it is their fundamental right, as members of the Australian community, without distinction of race, country of origin, creed, political belief, economic or social condition
to ageing persons from within the community, so that, according to the principle in natural philosophy, their right of choice is respected, observed and maintained without any infringement of their right to human understanding, dignity, self respect and individuality.
To provide:
preventative services as an aid to improving and maintaining the quality of life of our residents
care facilities and services having a rehabilitation focus, as an integral part of a restoration programme, so that with proper care and stimulation, our residents will have the opportunity to achieve some level of improved functioning in order to cope with their daily living needs
the major rehabilitation goal, which is not vocational, but rehabilitation for independent living, ie to help the residents to help themselves attain and accept their maximum potential
all care services and facilities on a continuing basis to ensure welfare and security for the ageing
supply and maintain regular, efficient, effective maintenance and related services to ECH's properties, equipment and stores
One aim of gerontologists is 'to add life to years, and years to life'. The ECH therapeutic policy was developed to provide those activities, services and facilities, which will strengthen an ageing person's spirit of independence, maintain self respect, inculcate or restore individuality, and encourage the person to be as self-directing and self-sufficient as possible.
