An ECH Dietician can help you understand the relationship between food and health, the nutritional value of different foods and how they interact with your body. A Dietician can work with you to identify and work towards your goals by developing a tailored plan that takes into account your lifestyle and food preferences. How do Exercise Physiologists assist with chronic health management? ECH Occupational Therapists can work with you to make adjustments to your life so that you can remain as active and confident in your own home for as long as possible. What should I expect? During your initial consultation in your home or at one of the ECH Wellness Centres, your Occupational Therapist will seek to understand your concerns, goals and physical abilities. They will then work with you to create a personalised plan to work towards your goals, which will enable you to feel more confident about your abilities and more secure in your environment. Following your assessment, your Occupational Therapist may recommend simple adjustments to your home such as the installation of handrails or a ramp or rearranging furniture to minimise risks of bumps and falls. You may also be taught exercises and skills to make daily tasks like dressing yourself simpler or be introduced to occupational therapy equipment or assistive technology that can make everyday tasks easier. Being able to communicate with other people is an essential human need as it allows you to express yourself, share your thoughts and interact with family and friends. If you are experiencing challenges with communicating perhaps due to a stroke, Parkinson’s disease or another medical condition, you may feel distressed or frustrated. Working with a qualified Speech Pathologist at an ECH Wellness Centre may help you to improve your communication if you are experiencing difficulty articulating or understanding speech or if you have difficulty chewing and swallowing. What should I expect? During your initial consultation in your home or at one of the ECH Wellness Centres, your Speech Pathologist will conduct a full assessment of your speech disorder and then work with you to develop a personalised and evidence-based treatment plan. They will identify your goals to improve your language abilities and/or swallowing difficulties and work with you to achieve them.
