Aged-care provider ECH is seeking expressions of interest to run new community cafés in Modbury and Walkerville.
The tenancies are on offer at the Encore Apartments project on Smart Road, Modbury, and the ECH Care Hotel – College Grove, Walkerville.
The Encore Apartments vertical village is currently under construction and will feature 77 two-bedroom independent retirement living apartments.
ECH Care Hotel – College Grove currently offers a range of health and wellbeing services, with longer terms plans including short-stay accommodation and serviced apartments.
ECH Chief Executive David Panter said the concept of community cafés was first envisioned by ECH in 2018, and aimed to connect the neighbourhood and offer somewhere for people to engage in a variety of social activities.
“When people have a welcoming meeting location in their neighbourhood, they are more likely to connect with each other, feel part of their community and live more fulfilling lives,” Dr Panter said.
“ECH has many residents and clients living independently in their own homes in both areas, and these new cafés will provide opportunities to stay connected with their community and remain socially active.”
As well as providing coffee and meals, the cafés will also be used to host activities such as workshops and clubs.
There will be community gardens on-site, and at the Modbury location there will be an SA Montessori Early Learning Centre offering intergenerational programs.
ECH is already a partner with The Pear café, in Alberton. It will offer support in setting up interactive programs, while a range of incentives will also be offered to the successful tenant to help support their new venture.
The café in Modbury will be fully operational from later this year, while the café in Walkerville will have a small presence from early next year and will be fully operational from 2022.
