Are you considering moving into a retirement village, but don’t know where to start?
ECH can assist you in planning your move, so that you can be confident in beginning your new life as an ECH retirement village resident.
A team member can either meet with you individually to discuss your needs, or you might like to attend a free information session where you can find out all you need to know about your retirement living options with ECH.
Registering your interest in an ECH retirement village is simple, and starts with ECH gaining a full understanding of your retirement living preferences and what style of unit you are looking for.
When you decide that you are ready to move, your preferences will be matched with available units in an ECH retirement village. For many people that move might be years after registration, while for others it will only be a short time.
A team member will then work closely with you to find the right unit for you.
You are strongly encouraged to talk to your family about your plans, and they are welcome to join you in any meetings with the ECH team.
When you decide on your new unit you will be presented with a residential contract, which offers the protection of the Retirement Villages Act. The residential contract will set out the terms and conditions of your agreement with ECH, detail your rights and obligations, and define the relationship between you and ECH. You will be given plenty of time to ask questions about the contract, and to decide if the contract and financial terms and conditions suit you and your situation. You do not need to sign the contract straight away, and you are strongly encouraged to seek independent advice.
Upon signing your contract you will be asked to pay a $2000 refundable deposit. You have 90 days from signing the contract to move into your new home. ECH is able to recommend reputable moving companies and real estate agents if required. If, within the 90 day period, you change your mind about the unit and you want to withdraw from the contract, your deposit will be refunded to you in full.
On the day you move in a team member will be there to greet you. They will spend time with you to ensure you know how everything in your new home works. You will be given information on important ECH contacts and the services available as an ECH retirement village resident.
Your team member will arrange for a visit from your maintenance officer who will provide a free one hour service to help you settle in to your new home by doing small jobs like hanging pictures, hooks and mirrors.
To make sure your move into an ECH retirement village is as smooth as possible a team member from Independent Living Services will visit you to see if there is any information or advice that you need. They can answer any questions you might have about ECH, your retirement village, or the local community in which your village is located.
