How do I find the right retirement village for me?
It is easy to register your interest in an ECH retirement village. The first step is for ECH to gain a full understanding of your retirement living preferences, where you would like to live and what style of home you are looking for.
You can register your interest as early as you want, even years in advance, and when you decide you are ready to move, your preferences will be matched with homes that are available in ECH retirement villages.
An ECH team member will work with you to find the right fit and answer any questions you may have. ECH encourages you to talk to your family about your plans and they are welcome to join you in any meetings with the ECH team.
What happens when I find the right home?
When you decide on your new home, you will be given a residential contract that offers the protection of the Retirement Villages Act. The easy-to-understand contract sets out the terms and conditions of your agreement with ECH, details your rights and obligations and defines the relationship between you and ECH.
You will be given plenty of time to ask questions about the contract and decide if the financial terms and conditions suit you and your situation. Rest assured you do not need to sign the contract straight away and you are encouraged to seek independent advice.
Moving into an ECH retirement village
Upon signing your contract, you will be asked to pay a $2,000 refundable deposit and you will have 90 days to move into your new home.
If, within the 90-day period, you change your mind about your new home and you want to withdraw from the contract, your deposit will be refunded to you in full.
On the day you move into your new home, an ECH team member will be there to greet you. They will spend time with you to make sure you know how everything in your new home works and give you information about important ECH contacts and services that are available to you as an ECH retirement village resident.
Your team member will also arrange for a visit from your maintenance officer, who will provide a free one-hour service to help you settle in to your new home by helping with small jobs like hanging pictures, hooks and mirrors.
To make sure your move is as smooth as possible, a team member from Independent Living Services will also visit you to see if there is any information or advice that you need.
