Short term respite is a perfect way for the person you care for to experience a different environment and to meet new people, and for you to have time to pursue some of your own interests, see friends or even to go on holiday.

Respite care can be accessed occasionally, or you might want to book regular stays which can be useful for planning activities for yourself ahead of time. The length of a stay in respite is flexible and entirely up to you.

Take a virtual tour of our Overnight Henley Beach Respite Centre

ECH provides quality respite care at their modern, purpose built centre at Henley Beach, where guests will enjoy their own private bedroom with adjoining ensuite and wall mounted television.

Company is never far away with communal living and dining areas, as well as day and evening programs with activities such as arts and crafts, gentle exercise, music, day trips and picnics. Routines are flexible, and what guests participate in is their choice.

What's included?

All meals, refreshments and linen are provided, and transport can also be arranged. All guests need to bring is their own clothes, toiletries and any personal effects that they want with them. If they take medication and require help with the administration of this, then medication must be either in a Webster-pak® or a mediSACHe®. If the medication is unable to be packed in either of these (ie eye drops) it must be in the original container with a pharmacist label.

The centre has been designed to specifically meet the needs of people living with dementia or memory loss.  Visual cues, personal alarms, smart sensors and experienced staff available 24 hours a day seven days a week ensure that guests will be secure and comfortable.

Total peace of mind

If you would like to stay with the person you care for during the first night to make sure they are comfortable at the Overnight Respite Centre then please contact ECH and ask about the options available.

Guests are usually aged 65 years and over, however younger people are also welcome. A pre-stay assessment by a trained ECH staff member is required before a booking can be made, to make sure the person you care for and the Overnight Respite Centre are a good fit. Unfortunately the centre cannot cater for some needs such as pureed food or assistance with weight bearing, however, ECH can provide in-home respite care to assist you in these circumstances.  Call us on 1300 275 324 to learn more.

Once eligibility is established the respite centre can be used if you are unable to meet your role as a carer for a time, for example due to illness or other commitments.  Respite care is also available if the person you care for could do with a little more support than usual, such as needing to rebuild their confidence after falling over or changes in their cognitive ability.

The ECH Overnight Respite Centre can be accessed on a competitive fee for service basis regardless of age, however you may qualify for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), or a Home Care Package (HCP).
