Whether you are looking to manage a chronic disease or improve your rehabilitation after an accident or illness, an ECH Exercise Physiologist can help you get back on track.
Exercise Physiologists can assist you to reach your full fitness potential no matter what your goal and also help you prevent injuries.
ECH Exercise Physiologists are accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and services are available at ECH Wellness Centres at Henley Beach, College Grove, Morphett Vale and Victor Harbor.
How do Exercise Physiologists assist with chronic health management?
If you have a health condition such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, diabetes or chronic back pain, an ECH Exercise Physiologist can help you manage the chronic health condition.
They use treatments such as rehabilitation after surgery (especially for ACL reconstruction and knee or hip replacement) and neuromuscular exercise therapy for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s disease.
What should I expect?
During an initial consultation, your Exercise Physiologist will seek to understand your goals and current physical condition as well as assess the impact of any medical conditions on your lifestyle and health. An exercise program will then be developed taking into account your goals, lifestyle and general health.
Your service plan will be tailored to you to make it as achievable and enjoyable as possible and it will be based on strategies that have been proven to increase both range of motion and strength. The program may include exercise classes such as Pilates, circuit training or core strength, or an individual workout plan for home or gym-based exercise.
ECH Exercise Physiologists work closely with other allied health professionals to ensure any gym-based programs or other physical programs are supervised to ensure your safety and the best possible fitness outcomes for you.
If needed, your ECH Exercise Physiologist can also work closely with your GP and any of your other health practitioners to make sure your service plan is integrated and you can achieve your health goals.
No matter your age, ECH Wellness Centre services are available to you on a self-funded basis. If you have private health insurance you may be able to seek rebates from your provider. If you are aged 65 years or over, you may qualify for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Home Care Package (HCP) and you may be able to use some of this funding to access ECH Wellness services.
If you have a chronic health condition, speak to your GP about how you might be able to access ECH exercise physiology services under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
