Getting Started with Government-Funded Care

Navigating the application process for government-subsidised care doesn’t have to be confusing. Our experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Our friendly experts can answer your questions, clarify funding options and help you prepare for the official application and assessment process.

Step 1: Talk to the ECH Team

Your first call should be to us.

We will discuss your current needs, explain the difference between the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and the Support at Home program and help you understand what information you’ll need to apply.

Crucially, if you need immediate assistance while you wait for government approval, we can help you identify and set up flexible Self-Funded Care options so you can start receiving the support you need as soon as possible.

Step 2: Contact My Aged Care (MAC)

Once you’re ready, you or your representative will contact the Australian Government’s My Aged Care (MAC).

• Call MAC directly at 1800 200 422 or apply online at the My Aged Care website.
• You will be asked questions about your health, how you are managing at home, and any support you currently receive.
• MAC will then determine your eligibility for an in-person assessment.

Step 3: Complete Your Assessment

If you are eligible, MAC will arrange for an assessor to visit you at home.

• This assessment is conducted to determine the level of support you need.
• The outcome of this assessment will decide which funding pathway you are eligible for: Entry-Level (CHSP) or Comprehensive (Support at Home program).
• Remember: You can have an ECH representative or a family member with you for support during this assessment.

Step 4: Choose ECH as Your Provider

Once you receive confirmation of your approved funding, you are free to choose your preferred service provider.

• Simply nominate ECH as your provider for services under the CHSP or the Support at Home program.
• We will then work with you to understand your budget, design your personalised Care Plan and commence your government-funded services.
