The health and safety of our clients, residents and staff continues to remain our highest priority. To enable us to comply with the Australian Government’s social distancing measures, from Thursday 26 March our respite day programs will limit the clients that we are able to support. We continue to be committed to support our clients and their carers in the best way possible. If you have concerns or would like to discuss at home respite options please call our friendly team on 1300 275 324.
Benefits for carers
If you are caring for someone experiencing dementia or memory loss, ECH Day Programs offer the opportunity to take a well-earned break. The person you care for can attend the Day Program while you are at work or attending an appointment, taking some quality time for yourself or spending the day with family or friends.
ECH Day Programs are specifically designed to cater for people who may be experiencing dementia or memory loss. Experienced centre staff ensure each individual’s interests and abilities are catered for and they provide personalised attention to ensure activities are meaningful to each person.
ECH has four conveniently located Day Programs offering a range of activities such as gardening, arts and craft, billiards, cooking, music, dancing and gentle exercise programs. Day Programs also include regular day trips and visits from local school children and other community members.
The five ECH Day Program centres offer modern and comfortable homelike environments with space to engage socially with others and spaces where quiet alone time can be enjoyed.
How to access ECH Day Programs?
ECH Day Programs are offered at four centres throughout Adelaide and Victor Harbor:
• ECH Smithfield (northern region)
• ECH Happy Valley (southern region)
• ECH Henley Beach (western region)
• ECH Walkerville (eastern / north eastern region)
The programs run Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm (including Public Holidays) and include various outings across the week. Attendees are provided with a nutritious lunch, morning and afternoon tea and snacks. Transport to and from the Day Programs may be arranged via an ECH bus or other modes of transport at an additional cost.
ECH Henley Beach also offers an Evening Program from 3pm to 8pm as well as a Short Stay Respite Centre.
ECH Day Programs are offered on a self-funded basis, however if you are aged 65 years or over, you may qualify for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Home Care Package (HCP) and you may be able to use some of this funding to access ECH Day Programs.
