Keeping up your level of fitness as you age is a key part of staying healthy and independent. ECH Allied Health professionals can guide you to the best choices for you to achieve your goals whether it’s lifting the grandchildren, being able to do domestic tasks or finding some exercises you enjoy.
ECH Wellness Centres offer fully equipped gyms and a wide range of exercise classes where you can exercise with likeminded people, of similar abilities. ECH allied health professionals are also on hand to provide advice and guidance.
How can ECH Fitness Programs and Exercise Classes help?
There are many reasons why exercise can support your lifestyle as you age. You may want to overcome simple aches and pains, such as back or joint pain, in order to do more of the things you love. Or you could have more complex needs such as rebuilding muscle strength after a stroke or fall.
Before you can use the gym or attend exercise classes you will need to have an initial consultation with an ECH allied health professional, who will work with you to understand your goals, any health concerns and your current level of fitness. You will then be given a personalised exercise program, specially tailored to address your unique health and physical needs and goals, including the activities you already do or would like to do.
Your goals can relate to any areas of your life and could include:
- being able to lift your grandchildren without back pain
- doing your gardening and mowing your lawn
- meeting new people and socialising
- managing blood pressure and cholesterol to avoid serious health issues
- getting in and out of the car independently
- getting back to playing lawn bowls or another activity
- swimming without shoulder pain

You may choose to complete your personalised workout on your own or with the guidance of a qualified Exercise Physiologist or Fitness Instructor; they will always be present to help with your progress in the gym and ensure your safety.
All of the ECH gyms feature modern exercise equipment and staff are always on hand to offer expert advice and to modify your program as needed to ensure you get the best outcomes possible for you.

Exercise helps Sue manage her diabetes
Sue attends exercise classes to improve her health after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
“I love going every week and everybody is so lovely and friendly. It is a nice atmosphere and we all get to know each other,” says Sue.
“Before I went to the Wellness Centre, I was overweight and had trouble with my balance. I used to go to another gym, but I hadn’t been in about a year and I had a few falls so thought that it was time I did something again.”
Sue says exercise classes have helped to improve her health and enabled her to meet likeminded people.
“The exercise classes have improved my balance and it’s given me the motivation to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.”
Service locations and fees
ECH Wellness Centres are located at College Grove, Henley Beach, Victor Harbor and Morphett Vale. Each centre is air-conditioned and offers change rooms for your convenience and comfort.
No matter your age, ECH Wellness Services are available to you on a self-funded basis. If you have private health insurance you may be able to seek rebates from your provider.
If you are 65 or over, you may qualify for a Home Care Package (HCP) and you may be able to use some of this funding to access ECH Wellness services.
