Keeping fit and strong allows you to do more and stay independent for longer. ECH Exercise Physiologists help people stay active so whether it’s running around after the grandchildren, mowing the lawn or just getting around the supermarket, they can help.

How can an ECH Exercise Physiologist help?

ECH Exercise Physiologists are accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and are highly skilled at prescribing exercise for people who have a range of health needs.

Your Exercise Physiologist will work with you to understand your goals, current physical condition and assess the impact of any injuries or medical conditions on your health and lifestyle.

Your goals can relate to any area of your life and could include:

  • being able to play actively with your grandchildren
  • doing your own gardening
  • managing your blood pressure and cholesterol to avoid serious health issues
  • swimming without shoulder or other pain
  • getting back to playing lawn bowls or another activity you enjoy

Goals are personal, so yours may vary from the ones here, these are a guide to show you the range of areas Exercise Physiologists can help with.

Your Exercise Physiologist will develop a tailored exercise program for you taking into account your goals, lifestyle and general health to make it as achievable and enjoyable as possible.

Programs are based on strategies that have been proven to increase both range of motion and strength and may include exercise classes such as pilates, circuit training or core strength, or an individual workout plan for home or gym-based exercise.

ECH Exercise Physiologists can support people to manage health conditions such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, diabetes or chronic back pain and can offer neuromuscular exercise therapy for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s disease.

They can also assist with rehabilitation after surgery, such as hip or knee replacements.

ECH Exercise Physiologists work closely with your GP and any of your other allied health professionals to ensure any gym-based programs or other physical programs are supervised to ensure your safety and the best possible fitness outcomes for you.

Helping Daniel keep active

Daniel’s family are all very active, so to help him achieve his goal of keeping up with his grandchildren and great grandchildren he decided to seek the help of an ECH Exercise Physiologist at Henley Beach.

After his initial consultation, Daniel began attending a variety of allied health services, including one-on-one sessions with an Exercise Physiologist.

“My program is designed for me. The quality of the program is impressive; I am doing things that keep me interested and are at my standard of fitness. It keeps my legs working and I find myself looking for excuses to go and exercise, rather than looking for excuses not to go!

“I cannot speak more highly of the staff at ECH Wellness Henley Beach, they are all so kind and helpful. I enjoy going to see them regularly.”
