R U OK? Day Walking Footy Showdown
In September, ECH celebrated R U OK? Day, which reminds us to ask, ‘are you OK?’, and start a meaningful conversation whenever you spot the signs that someone you care about might be struggling with life. On this day we acknowledged the many benefits that exercise brings to supporting our wellbeing and reducing stress.
Walking Footy is one idea which can help create connections with new people and have those conversations, which led to Walking Footy participants and ECH employees celebrating R U OK? Day by versing one another in a friendly Walking Footy showdown. Both players and employees enjoyed learning from each other and sharing in some light- hearted banter. Players certainly gave employees a run for their money! Click here to watch a video of the day.
The SANFL & ECH Walking Footy game is a modified version of Australian Rules Football that prioritises enjoyment, safety, and inclusivity. This could be the perfect activity for you to take part in or simply attend from the side lines, offering both a chance to play and a chance to socialise!

Diamond Celebrations
GLENDA AND DON
Glenda and Don have been married 60 years and they had a lovely afternoon tea, at ECH Encore Apartments, to celebrate with Mr G Galpin, Board Member WSCWA, attending. Mr Galpin was MC at their wedding in 1963.
MARGARET AND BRUCE
Margaret and Bruce celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with afternoon drinks with neighbours at ECH Garden Cottages St Georges. The following weekend, the pair continued the celebrations with a delicious and beautiful high tea at their daughter’s house. Nearly almost all the original wedding party attended including the flower girl who was three years’ old at the time.
Cumby Crew Community
In November, the Cumby Crew were kept on their toes with their regular ‘movement to music’, then a performance from the Southern Strummers Ukulele Band, followed by frittata and salad whipped up by the wonderful kitchen volunteers.
Find out how you can join the activities at the Cumberland Park Community Centre.
Finals Fever
ECH residents and friends John and Ronda were some of our lucky ticket winners who enjoyed the SANFL Grand Final Sturt v Glenelg showdown. You can probably guess from their smiles that their favourite team won!
Keep an eye out in 2024 for more SANFL ticket giveaways from ECH.
ECH Day Program Happy Valley entered not one, but six artworks into the Royal Adelaide Show Handicrafts Competition. We are super proud of our clients’ efforts, winning 1st (Red Panda) and 2nd (Sun and Moon) in group projects as well as winning 1st (Giraffes), 2nd (Donkey) and 2nd (Toolbox) in individual projects and different categories.
Day Program client John, who entered his toolbox, is extremely proud of his work and shares that he decorated it with rainbow LGBTIQA+ colours and flags representing the community to support his child. John is well-loved and well-known at our Day Program for his rainbow beard which brings joy to clients and staff.
Well done and congratulations to everyone involved.
